AAC Block Installation Planning: 8 Checks Before Work Starts

AAC blockwork performs best when the project team resolves practical site questions before the first pallet arrives. The blocks are lightweight and efficient to handle, but a reliable wall still depends on layout, substrate condition, jointing, openings, storage and coordination between trades. This checklist helps contractors, estimators and buyers prepare an AAC installation package that is clear enough to price, schedule and build.

1. Confirm the wall function

Identify whether each wall is an internal partition, external enclosure, shaft wall or part of a fire and acoustic strategy. The intended function affects the selected thickness, finishing system and details around openings. Send the supplier the wall drawings and application notes instead of requesting a quotation from a product name alone.

2. Confirm dimensions and quantity

Calculate the net wall area, deduct major openings and then add the project-approved allowance for cutting and breakage. Confirm block length, height and thickness before ordering. 3. Prepare a level starting course

The first course controls the alignment of the wall above it. The base should be clean, stable and level before blockwork begins. Resolve uneven areas at the starting course rather than correcting the error gradually through every higher course. Mark wall lines clearly so the crew can check position before adhesive is applied.

4. Agree the jointing method

Use a jointing material suitable for AAC and follow the product manufacturer's mixing ratio, application thickness and working-time instructions. Keep the joint thickness consistent and remove excess adhesive before it hardens. A short site mock-up lets the supervisor confirm the tools, block preparation and workmanship standard before the full wall package starts.

5. Coordinate openings and services

Doors, windows, lintels, movement joints and service penetrations should be shown on the coordinated wall layout. Mark major MEP routes before installation so the blockwork and services teams work in sequence. Avoid uncontrolled chasing or late cutting that can damage a finished wall or force an unplanned change to the opening detail.

6. Protect delivered blocks

Place pallets on firm, level ground and keep them away from standing water, mud and unnecessary impact. Plan the unloading route so materials do not need to be moved repeatedly across the site. 7. Coordinate the finishing system

Confirm whether the wall will receive render, plaster, paint, tile or cladding. The finish should be compatible with the AAC substrate and with the wall's exposure and expected movement. Agree surface preparation, reinforcement at vulnerable locations and curing requirements with the finishing contractor. A small approved mock-up is useful when the finish is highly visible.

8. Coordinate the handover between trades

Set a simple handover sequence: wall layout approval, substrate acceptance, first-course inspection, opening verification, service coordination and finish-readiness check. Record any deviations before the next trade covers the work. This reduces rework and gives the project manager a clear point at which responsibility moves from one team to the next.

9. Keep delivery timing aligned with site readiness

Share the destination, requested dimensions, estimated quantity and preferred shipping term with the supplier. Schedule delivery for a period when the site can unload and store the material safely.
