AAC Block Installation Planning: 8 Checks Before Work Starts

AAC blockwork performs best when the project team resolves a few practical questions before the first pallet arrives on site. The material is lightweight and easy to handle, but good results still depend on wall layout, substrate condition, jointing method and protection of delivered blocks.

1. Confirm the wall function first

Start by identifying whether the wall is an internal partition, an external enclosure, a shaft wall or part of a fire and acoustic strategy. The intended function affects the selected block thickness, finishing approach and the details needed around openings. A supplier can prepare a more useful recommendation when the project team shares wall drawings and the intended use of each wall type.

2. Check the approved dimensions and quantity

Use the net wall area, then deduct large openings and allow for site cutting, breakage and the project's approved wastage allowance. Confirm the requested block dimensions before placing the order. The most economical size is not always the right size if it does not match the wall layout or local handling practice.

3. Prepare a level starting course

The first course controls the alignment of the entire wall. The base should be clean, stable and level before blockwork begins. Where the substrate varies, the installation team should resolve the level difference at the first course instead of trying to correct it gradually through the wall.

4. Agree the jointing material and method

AAC blocks are commonly installed with a suitable thin-bed adhesive system where specified. The site team should follow the adhesive manufacturer's mixing, application and working-time instructions. A consistent jointing method improves wall alignment and reduces unnecessary material use.

5. Detail openings and service penetrations

Doors, windows, lintels, movement joints and service openings should be coordinated before installation. Avoid uncontrolled chasing or late cutting that can weaken a finished wall. Mark major service routes on the wall layout so the blockwork and MEP teams can work in sequence.

6. Store delivered blocks correctly

Keep pallets on a firm, level surface and protect blocks from standing water, contamination and unnecessary impact. Cover materials when required while maintaining practical access for safe unloading and handling. Good storage prevents avoidable edge damage before work begins.

7. Coordinate finishing materials

Specify compatible render, plaster, paint or cladding systems for the AAC substrate. The final finish should be selected with the wall's exposure, expected movement and local climate in mind. A small approved mock-up is useful when the project has a high-visibility finish requirement.

8. Share the right information with the supplier

For a practical quotation and product discussion, send the country, project type, wall application, requested dimensions, estimated quantity, destination port and preferred shipping term. This makes it easier to compare a supplier's offer on scope rather than price alone.
