Warehouse and logistics projects often need wall systems that can be planned quickly, handled safely and coordinated with doors, services and internal circulation. AAC blocks and ALC panels can both be considered for warehouse partitions, but they are not interchangeable in every situation. The right choice depends on wall layout, opening requirements, equipment, installation sequence and the project schedule.
This guide gives contractors and project buyers a practical framework for comparing the two systems before requesting a quotation. It is not a substitute for approved drawings, local requirements or the responsible engineer's design.
Start with the function of the partition
First identify what the wall must do. A partition may separate storage zones, create a staff area, enclose a service room, form a shaft or divide a production space. It may also need to coordinate with roller doors, personnel doors, cable routes, ventilation equipment or fire strategy documents.
Write the wall function beside each line in the inquiry schedule. A single warehouse may contain several wall types, and combining them into one quantity can make a quotation difficult to compare. The intended function also helps the supplier understand whether the request is for AAC block masonry, reinforced ALC panels or a combination of systems.
When AAC blocks may be practical
AAC blocks are installed in courses and can suit partitions with irregular geometry, frequent changes in length or smaller wall sections. They are often easier to adapt around non-standard corners and local openings because the installer works with individual units. This can be useful in warehouse refurbishment or in areas where the final layout is still being coordinated.
Blockwork still requires disciplined preparation. The starting course should be level, the jointing method should be agreed and service penetrations should be coordinated before the wall is complete. When ALC panels may be practical
ALC panels are larger reinforced elements and can be considered where the project benefits from a planned panel layout and coordinated lifting operation. They may suit long, relatively regular partitions or enclosure areas where the site team can organise lifting, temporary support and fixing in a defined sequence.
Panel selection should be discussed together with the installation method. Confirm the access route, lifting equipment, storage arrangement and order in which panels will be installed. A panel schedule is more useful than a single total area because it allows openings, edge conditions and connection details to be reviewed before production.
Compare openings and services early
Warehouse partitions frequently include doors, inspection openings, electrical conduits, fire equipment and ventilation routes. Mark these items on the wall layout before final quantities are prepared. Late changes can create extra cutting, additional supports or a revised panel arrangement.
For AAC blocks, identify major openings and service chases separately. For ALC panels, confirm the position and size of openings before the panel schedule is released. The selected finishing and jointing system should also be checked around openings and interfaces with the surrounding structure.
Review the site handling plan
Handling constraints can influence the better material choice. Record the delivery entrance, internal route, available storage space, forklift or crane access and any restrictions on working hours. Protect pallets and panels from unnecessary impact and standing water, and keep the storage surface firm and level.
If the warehouse is operating during construction, discuss phased delivery and temporary separation of work areas. A material that arrives too early may require additional handling, while a delivery that arrives too late can interrupt the installation sequence. A clear site plan helps the supplier discuss packing and shipment quantities more accurately.
Prepare quantities on a comparable basis

For ALC panels, provide the wall area and, where possible, a panel schedule showing approximate panel lengths, heights, openings and edge conditions. Ask suppliers to state whether the quotation is based on square metres, individual panels or another unit. Do not compare a panel-area quotation with a block-unit quotation without first aligning the measurement basis.
Include accessories and finishing scope
Ask for accessories to be shown as separate line items. The discussion may include adhesive, anchors, reinforcement, lifting accessories, joint treatment, render, plaster or protective finishes, depending on the selected system and project specification. Separate line items make exclusions visible and reduce the risk of comparing different scopes.
Warehouse walls may experience frequent cleaning, impact from equipment or contact with moving goods. The finishing system should therefore be selected with the operating environment in mind. The project team should confirm the required protection and maintenance approach rather than assuming that one finish suits every area.
Ask for a quotation that explains delivery
Provide the project country, city or destination port, target delivery window and preferred trade term if known. State whether the warehouse will receive one shipment or staged deliveries. If you need a packing list, commercial invoice, bill of lading or other agreed documents, include that request before the quotation is finalised.
